There is a massive amount of infrastructure underground which is continuously being added to these days!  This has created the challenge of trying to find all these existing services to avoid during the installations of new infrastructure and also map out for future reference.

Ground penetrating radar (GPR) is a proven and cost effective solution to help find especially the non-conductive utilities as traditional electromagnetic methods (EM) cannot detect these.  As you can see in the images below and using our LMX200, a plastic water pipe was located (marked with pink dots) at a about a meter below the surface.  This would not have been possible using EM technology and therefore the excavator would’ve run the risk of damaging this service.

The above is just one example but there are many out there where using GPR technology has helped companies save huge amounts of money for repairs as well as downtime but mainly doing their part in keeping staff safe and service supply interruptions to a minimum.

Next time you are going to be doing any excavation onsite, consider making the investment in equipment that will save you all the “headaches” and risks involved from striking services.
